After the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a stay in the execution of convicted cop killer Troy Davis, the state was allowed to proceed with the lethal injection.

Davis was declared dead at 11:08 pm EST on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old Davis was put to death for the 1989 killing of an off-duty police officer in Savannah, Georgia.

Reports also stated that just moments before his death, Davis still maintained his innocence, telling the victim’s family that he was not guilty.
